Coimbatore : "Though Vikram lander failed to land on the moon, it has landed in the hearts of students, youth and young scientists and this itself is a mammoth victory for Chandrayaan 2", lauded Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai, Former Director of ISRO at an event held in a private college here on Sunday.
At the graduation day of R.V College of Arts and Science in Karamadai near Mettupalayam held on September 29, Dr Mylswamy Annadurai, Former Director of ISRO, who was the chief guest for the event addressed the students on Chandrayaan 2 mission.
In a media briefing, Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai revealed that Chandrayaan 2 was sent to space for three reasons. "The first reason is to ascertain the natural resources in the Moon, the second reason is to land Vikram lander in the moon for exploration and the third reason is to create history in astronomy that would inturn inspire and kindle exploration amongst budding Indian scientists.
He added that though the mission failed to achieve one of the criteria which is exploration of natural resources, it has certainly achieved the other two.
The former ISRO Chief recalled the night of Chandrayaan 2 launch and cheered that he was over joyed to see the entire nation especially youngsters and children stay awake till midnight to witness the proud moment.
Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai also said that Chandrayaan 2's orbiter will operate for six more years and will help to analyze the moon. Just like google map, it will let the scientists draw the map of the moon accurately.
"Chandrayaan 2 will help in viewing the moon in the three-dimensional image and will help in the study of water level and glaciers in the moon", he added.
"After the launch of Chandrayaan -2, we now have more young scientists and science scholars from all over the world ready to work with us to explore", he noted.
Suguna, Principal of the College, Sundar, Secretary of the College, staff and students took part.
